Folks, we're really sorry for this. We really are. But it's our duty to keep our Spidey-Senses up for NFL news, and we've caught wind of a … well, we're searching for the right word to describe it … rumor. Howard Eskin of 610 WIP Sports Radio in Philadelphia has it out there that the Eagles are interested in possibly procuring the services of ...

Oh hell, we can't even write it. Howard, take it away!
The worst part is that though Favre has made no noises about returning to the game after retirement (again), his possible tenure with the Eagles makes all the sense in the world, especially given the time constraints of the (potential) new CBA. If the league year starts next Wednesday, training camps will be limited at best, and we all know how Favre has enjoyed playing his own tune when it comes to that part of the preseason — he was very transparent in his last two retirements, both of which had him with the Minnesota Vikings when those retirements were retracted.
Add in the fact that Favre knows Eagles head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg from his days in Green Bay, and you've got a good scheme fit for Favre's talents. And when the Eagles trade Kevin Kolb(notes) (as they undeniably will), that will put Michael Vick(notes) out there as the absolute starter. Factor in Vick's breakneck style, the injuries it led to in 2010, and the four games he missed, and it's clear the Eagles need a veteran backup familiar with a West Coast Offense that has aerial passing components.
Right now, this is just Eskin's rumor, though he's fairly dialed in. The Eagles can't talk to free agents or draft picks, but there's nothing in the lockout rules we're aware of preventing them from talking to retired players. If Favre is interested in coming back to a team able to challenge for a Super Bowl, in a media hotbed, behind a vulnerable quarterback, which a staff he knows, and talented targets all over the place … well, there would be few better places for him to go.
Then, there's the intangible argument. The lockout has taken the attention of the NFL media through the spring and summer; very few people have made Favre the primary subject of their attention, and we all know how he reacts to that.
It's tempting to ask the owners and players to put some sort of "Anti-Favre" provision in the new CBA before the NFLPA signs off on it, but we suppose we'll have to see how this plays out.
Again. Good Lord, again.
UPDATE: Here's Vick's take on the whole thing; he's pretty clearly setting the terms of such a deal by mentioning Favre as a 'backup.'
"Amy Winehouse was found dead in her apartment today. The death is listed as unexplained. In the end, Winehouse was better known for her brushes with the law and drug addiction than she was for her talent, and she was talented. She had a wonderful voice and a great musical style.
Winehouse had the ability to bring soul music back to the mainstream, and for awhile, she did. "Back to Black" was a massive hit. The album won the singer five Grammies and propelled her into stardom. Her success as a singer was short lived.
Within a matter of a few months, her drug addled tabloid lifestyle would take center stage. Her fans watched as she was arrested for assault, warned and featured doing drugs in a home video.
Her spiral continued until 2008, when she was hospitalized with lung disease and covered in nicotine patches in order to break her from the worst of her addictions. We hoped she'd recover. We hoped to see another album just as good as "Back to Black," but more importantly, we wanted to see her beat her addiction and survive. We wanted Winehouse to divorce Blake Feder-Civil and become a success story.
Shortly after her hospitalization, Winehouse did divorce Blake Feder-Civil and the news stopped. There were no more tabloids pictures of a disoriented, bloody or beaten Winehouse. Was she getting better? Creating another album? We hoped.
News arrived in June. Winehouse underwent a brief stint in rehab to prepare her for an upcoming comeback tour. She even performed an impromptu concert in London at the 100 Club. She was sober. She talked to the fans, and everyone cheered. It looked like the old Amy was back.
She appeared well prepared for her concert in Belgrade. She wasn't. It was a disgrace. The singer stumbled, muttered and forgot the lyrics to her own songs. She went home. We wondered what happened between the 100 Club and Belgrade. The tour spent about a day in limbo before the remaining dates were canceled.
We, again, hoped Winehouse would recover; that this was just a brief bump on her road to becoming drug free. Unfortunately, that bump in the road turned out to be a mountain, and Winehouse was too sick to climb it. She was found dead in her apartment earlier today. The cause of death is unknown."

Rapper Nicki Minaj is denying reports that she was involved in a physical altercation with a male friend at the Palomar Hotel in Dallas. Details have been offered as to what allegedly happened.
Minaj and her hypeman Safaree “SB” Samuels reportedly got into an argument and Minaj was hit in the mouth with a suitcase.
“Responding officers spoke with the Complainant [Nicki Minaj], who stated a verbal altercation took place…at the pool,” the report read. “When [Minaj] returned to her hotel room, Witness 1 [Safaree Samuels] was also back at the room…[Minaj] told [Samuels] that she didn’t want him taking anyting out of the room. [Samuels] had some of his personal belongings in a suitcase, and as [Minaj] was looking into the suitcase, [Samuels] grabbed the suitcase and as he was picking it up, he shoved the suitcase across [Minaj's] chin.”
“Responding officers observed slight swelling and redness to [Minaj's] chin and lower lip. [Minaj's] teeth struck the inside of her lower lip, causing the inside….to bleed….[Minaj] told responding officers that she did not want to make a report and that she just wanted her suitcase back….[Minaj] stated multiple times that she and [Samuels] were only friends and had never been involved in an intimate relationship and were not related at all. The hotel rooms…were re-keyed…and [Minaj] was provided with a key. [Minaj] refused to have any pictures taken and refused to make a police report.”
But Minaj and Safaree both claim the story has been exaggerated. "The fact that u believe a man either slapped or punched me in the face & didn't leave on a stretcher w/his balls hangin off? #getaF%cknLifedenied," Minaj tweeted shortly after the story broke. "The media could pee on ur leg & tell u its raining. You'd believe it. You'd believe u were an adopted martian if TMZ told u so. #stopit5"
The general public are some stupid muthaf*ckas!!!! Y'all d*cks believe anything on a website," Safaree tweeted. "It's really a shame... Wut up tho Dallas?!!
He then added, "4the record I would never lay a hand on ANY woman, I have all sisters and No brothers And that's the last I'll say about that!!! God bless."

There is apparently still bad blood between Lil Kim and the late Notorious B.I.G.'s mother Voletta Wallace. According to Monica, Ms. Wallace had Lil Kim's contributions to Monica's single "Anything (To Find You.) removed." The song samples Biggie's classic b-side "Who Shot Ya."
"I am just finding out what has happened to my single and myself & Missy are beyond hurt that @LilKim was removed," Monica tweeted. "She's our friend, a legend & @LilKim will get the respect she deserves at all cost. The clearance was revoked & I'm fighting to get it reinstated by the Biggie Estate."
"We respect all parties involved & were gonna do WHATEVER to keep the song as is because @lilKim the bizness on the record," Monica added. "I am as thorough as they come and I LOVE @LilKim bottom line is Ms Wallace has the final say and she said No. If we put it out we get SUED."
To say Serena Williams stole the show at the ESPYs suggests that there was a show to steal.
The world No. 172 walked the red carpet in a dazzling, low-cut pink minidress that accentuated her curvy physique. The gold Christian Louboutin heels added at least four inches to Serena's 5-foot-9 frame.
Despite playing in two tournaments since last year's show, Serena was awarded the ESPY award for best female tennis player, which is like the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences giving an Oscar to Al Pacino for this year's sure-to-be stinker "Jack and Jill" because he was fantastic in "The Godfather II."
Yes, we know; it's useless to complain about a meaningless, arbitrary award like an ESPY. Still, you'd think ESPN could have lured Serena to the show with the promise of something else (a lifetime achievement award, a montage of her comeback, a shawl) rather than a prize for playing no matches during the voting period. Not that there were many other candidates for the prize but surely there was someone. What about wheelchair tennis great Esther Vergeer, who's won more than 400 matches in a row? Or mom-turned-champion Kim Clijsters? Or those ladies who always play doubles at the court down the street from you because, you know, they played tennis this year.
Serena is playing some World TeamTennis events for the Washington Kastles this month before returning to tournament play July 25 in Stanford. She's set to play three more tournaments before the U.S. Open.

Singer Rihanna had to cancel her Dallas show at American Airlines Center yesterday (July 8) after a fire erupted during the first hour of the show. Authorities had to scrap the show for safety and security reasons.
"DALLAS!!! We set the stage on FYAH tonight!!! LITERALLY!!! I'm so pissed, I was havin so much fun wit yall too!!!" Rihanna tweeted after the near-disaster. "I gotta come back man!!..Heading into a production meeting to find out exactly what happened!!! Keep u posted."
No more details have been released regarding the fire.
DALLAS - A dozen of the best high school 7-on-7 travel teams competed for the New Level/BadgerSport national championship tournament last weekend at SMU, but there was one particular matchup everyone wanted to see: Southern California squads Team 1925 and Team B2G, and the two dozen Division I prospects between them.
Trenton Irwin proved he shouldn't be overlooked.
But part of that game's starting lineup did not quite look as if he belonged among the future college talent. Lining up alongside these seemingly grown men was a baby-faced, a 6-foot, 155-pound 14-year-old named Trenton Irwin. The opposing team, as well as most observers, paid him little attention. At least, not heading into the game.
But on the first play of the game, Irwin made a move at the line and ran a deep go route. Team B2G quarterback Marc Evans hit him in stride for a touchdown. The defensive backs weren't quite sure what to make of the kid. Did he really just score a 40-yard touchdown on the first snap of the contest?
Irwin is used to those looks by now. After all, he is just a kid. However, nobody realizes just how young he is. This past fall, Irwin suited up for the Santa Clarita Indians of the Pacific Youth Football League. He did so because he was not yet in high school.
"It's definitely different being out here and being so much younger than everybody else," said Irwin, who will be a freshman this fall at Newhall (Calif.) Hall. "These are guys who have already committed to play for colleges and I haven't even taken a class in high school yet."
While Irwin's prowess on the field surprises most of his opponents, not all of them overlooked the young kid lined up on the outside.
"I know who he is," Team 1925 cornerback and Rivals100 prospect Ishmael Adams said. "We've played against (B2G) enough times and seen what he can do enough times that we all know who he is. He's good - he's real good. It's not just some kid that they brought along for the show of it. He's one of their best receivers. He's good."
Irwin lined up against cornerbacks such as four-star prospects Tee Shepard, Richard Smith and Darion Monroe, and holds his own.
"He catches 1,500 balls a lot of weekends," his father, Craig Irwin, said. "We take him out to work with..quarterback gurus in L.A. He catches balls from all those quarterbacks that work out with those guys. He gets to work out for free with them. It's a good deal for him.
"He was telling me that, going against (Shepard), he used three moves in the first three plays and then was like, 'I've got nothing left. I don't know what else to do to get open.' He still has to work on things like that but, I can tell you one thing, he's not going to drop any balls. We've got that part down."
Trenton Irwin catches 1,500 passes on many weekends.
With most other players in the tournament trying to decide which college to attend, Irwin has also recently been faced with a decision about his future school: What high school to attend. "We've been looking at a bunch of different (high) schools," Craig Irwin said. "We really have been looking at all the options. He was looking at going to St. Bonaventure to play with Marc (Evans). We also looked at Oaks Christian and some others as well.
"He decided he wanted to play at Hart (in Newhall, Calif.) though. We really did it to play with the same quarterback. He has a really good QB on his youth team that is going to be one of the better players in California and he had already decided to go to Hart. ? Trenton is actually going to be the first freshman to start on varsity there."
His B2G team did not win the tournament, as Irwin was forced to watch rival Team 1925 take the crown. However, he sees playing against elite competition that is at least three years older as a great experience.
"How many other guys my age can say they have played with and against players like this?" he asked. "I've read about these guys for years and I'm playing on the same team with a lot of them. A guy like Tee Shepard, he's going to Notre Dame and I'm lining up against him. I'm basically just an eighth-grader still."
Though Irwin's skills on the field belie his age, he still shows flashes of being a kid. Asked about his height and weight, he is embarrassed to admit that he is actually a bit lighter than the advertised 160 pounds. He sees many big and strong opponents, and realizes he is not there yet.
"It's actually around 150 or 155," he admitted. "I'm skinny, I know. I need to put on some weight."
Last January, Irwin was named the offensive MVP of the Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl in conjunction with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio. He wants to follow in the footsteps of fellow tournament participants Shepard, Shaq Thompson and Deontay Greenberry.
"That would be awesome, to play in the Army game like those guys," Irwin said. "I've gotten to see it in person and there are all kinds of big-name guys there. I would love to be one of those guys someday."
Of course for Irwin, he'll have to wait until January 2015 for that "someday" to become reality.
